Ice Cream Sandwich to hit most Android phones soon

The brand new Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the first to carry the Android 4.0 Ice Cream SandwichOS and is anticipated to be the biggest competitor to Apple’s iPhone 4S. With the OS showcasing a number of sophisticated features, other smartphone and tablet manufactures will soon join the race to offer the newest and best in the market.
Top executives at companies like HTC and Sony Ericsson told Pocket Lint of their plans to go the Ice Cream Sandwich way. Other manufacturers haven’t yet released official statements but the buzz around the tech world is that they won’t be far behind.
According to Engadget, Samsung will be releasing the ICS OS for the Nexus S, but when the update will be available is not yet known. Sony Ericsson told Pocket Lint that currently the company is updating its 2011 Xperia smartphones with Gingerbread 2.3.4. It later plans to roll out the next Android update made available to them for the same portfolio of phones. An early 2012 timeline looks good in this case.
As far as Motorola’s newest offering is concerned, the Razr will be available with Android 2.3 Gingerbread but the company has officially declared that it will upgrade the device to Ice Cream Sandwich by early next year. As is usual with the company, the update will be available OTA. On the other hand, HTC and ViewSonic are currently reviewing Android’s latest OS to figure out when and how they can incorporate the upgrade into its devices.
The Asus Eee Pad Transformer may just become the first tablet to get ICS, but when it will do so is not yet scheduled. Other corporations like LG, Dell, ZTE, Acer and Huawei haven’t disclosed their plans to move to the new OS but it probably won’t take them long to jump on the bandwagon to stay competitive.
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich scores over Apple on at least one front: it can work on devices made by different manufacturers. With so many competitors adopting Android’s latest offering, the war of the operating systems will soon become the war of the gadgets.
The launch of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich has sent the gadget world into a tizzy. Android fans lining up for the new and improved OS won’t have to wait too long as the update will be available soon
